Measuring an Orange...

In Kākāpō, we have almost finished a task we started at the end of last term - how to measure an orange.
Pairs of students created a range of zany and outrageous questions about oranges and today we set about to work out the answers.
Video clips about our learning will be up later - for now check out some pics of the Orange Action!

Ako Maths

A new initiative that we are trialling as part of our targetted Maths programme is based in the Maori concept of 'Ako' - Meaning reciprocal learning.

We are currently looking at Decimal Place Value, some students who are confident in this area have volunteered to be Kaiako (Teachers) and small groups of Akonga (learners) have been assigned to each.

While this first session today wasn't perfect (and we'll be modifying as we go) - the learning conversations that were taking place were fantastic.
